that way, anything in there (in this case, UCN in the steamapps files) will be safe from being mistaken for a virus. Go to the 'SETTINGS' tab, then 'EXCLUDED FILETYPE AND LOCATIONS' - from there browse and add files to be excluded from scans. TL, DR: Use WINDOWS DEFENDER instead of McAfee or whatever you have. :/ It's amazing my PC's okay, to be honest. I basically spent a day realising my malware protection software on my PC was completely screwed, with various inactive programs, expired subscriptions, etc. There's a whole tab for it, so it's easy. After hours of trying various methods and solution however, I managed to install my game by excluding the 'downloading' and 'common' files through scans on Windows defender. Hello! For anyone not using Mcafee, I switched to Ad Aware anti-virus - this was a bad decision, as it basically does not have a file exclusion system. This will exclude Ultimate Custom Night from being scanned by McAfee. In the file name search bar that pops up, paste the Ultimate Custom Night.exe you copied. Go back to the Mcafee real time scanning window you left open.Ĭlick 'Excluded Files', and then click 'Add File'. Right click on Ultimate Custom Night.exe and copy it. Right click on Ultimate Custom Night.Ĭlick 'Properties', then 'Local files', and then 'Browse Local Files'. You should see where it says 'excluded files'. Next, click on the cog in the top right of the screen and select 'Real-Time Scanning'. This will enable UCN to run, but it doesn't help with keeping MCafee from quarantining the file I mentioned earlier. Select the file that says 'GameOverlay.log' or 'GameOverlayRenderer.log' (Not quite sure which, but you'll know it when you see it), and click 'Restore'. Then, click on the cog in the top right corner of the screen. To restore the file to it's proper location, go into McAfee LiveSafe. If another antivirus is giving you the same issue, and you know how to fix the problem, feel free to post your solution in the comments below! I'll be happy to add it to the thread like I did with ShadowMan's article! To fix this issue, please refer to the steps below! Rest assured that the file is completely harmless and your antivirus is blocking it due to an error in the system. The long and short of it is, there's a file inside the game that behaves similarly to (but isn't really) a virus, and as such it gets quarantined by MCafee. This has been a major issue for a LOT of people attempting to run Ultimate Custom Night.
